The idea

Most swimming wearables assume a single fixed mounting point. AquaTag is designed around placement flexibility, allowing the same open platform to collect and interpret motion at the head, wrist, or lower back.

The technical core

The device combines motion, barometric-pressure, and temperature sensing with underwater logging and above-water Bluetooth synchronization. A placement-conditioned learning pipeline adapts its representation to the sensor’s location before estimating swimming state and stroke type.

Why it matters

Open hardware, enclosure files, firmware, fabrication instructions, and companion software make AquaTag a reusable research platform—not only a closed activity tracker. Its low-cost potting workflow also lowers the barrier to prototyping reliable aquatic interfaces.
